Stormbringer! Catalogue

Over its 25 year period, numerous adventures and supplements have been produced for Stormbringer (and ELRIC!). While some of these are now long out-of-print (available via second hand dealers) each of these products further developed the setting and system we see used today.

Below is the collected list of existing Stormbringer and ELRIC! supplements. It hoped that this list can be expanded as additional information comes to hand.

Early Editions

Stormbringer was first published by Chaosium in 1981. The first edition was written by Ken St Andre and Steve Perrin, and was followed by a 2nd (little more and a tidy-up), 3rd (Games-Workshop's Hardcover book) and 4th edition (Chaosium's single book format - which also including material from the Stormbringer Companion).

The earliest editions (1 through 3) saw numerous adventures and supplements published to support them. These included:

  • Stormbringer 1st Edition #2006 - (Rulebox, 1981)
  • Stormbringer Companion #2102 - (Supplement, 1983) - Additional rules for the Stormbringer setting, including twelve new creatures, notables of Melnibone, and six adventures. The material in this book was included in both the 3rd and 4th editions rulebooks.
  • Stormbringer 2nd Edition #2101 - (Rulebox, 1985)
  • Demon Magic: The Second Stormbringer Companion #2103 - (Supplement, 1985) - Additional rules for the Stormbringer setting, including rules on sanity, new demon special abilities, magical runes, new magic items, and new creatures. This book also included two adventures.
  • Stealer of Souls #2104 - (Adventure, 1985) - The first book in a two-part adventure in which the characters are sent against Elric.
  • Black Sword #2105 - (Adventure, 1985) - The second book in a two-part adventure in which the characters are sent against Elric.
  • Octagon of Chaos (TOME Press) - (Adventure, 1986) - An adventure set in an age before the events of the Elric novels.
  • White Wolf: Temples¸ Demons & Ships of War #2108 - (Supplement, 1987) - Additional rules for the Stormbringer setting, including material on Temples, Ships and the Albino himself.
  • Stormbringer 3rd Edition #2109 - (Rulebook, 1987)

4th Edition

With the arrival of 4th edition Stormbringer began to be shaped into the game we see today. While most of the earlier material is only barely compatible with the latest edition, most of the 4th edition books and adventures can be adapted to the later rules with ease.

The system we all love and enjoy started life as ELRIC!, a revised and updated version of Stormbringer. In general, there seems be be a natural progression from 4th edition through ELRIC! to 5th.

Dragon Lords of Melniboné Edition (D20)

The early 2000's saw the arrival of Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition. As many companies began the scamble to produce D&D 3rd edition products, Chaosium belated joined the masses with their Dragonlords of Melniboné version of Stormbringer.
